The Key Hormones:

17-Hydroxyprogesterone

17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP)

A steroid hormone produced in the adrenal glands. 17-OHP is not an active steroid hormone, but is rather considered to be a precursor to other adrenal hormones such as cortisol and the androgens.

17-OHP plays a crucial role in hormone stimulation testing! This is because it is a precursor hormone, and can therefore be used to indicate the overproduction of certain adrenal hormones.
