The Key Hormones:

Cortisol

Cortisol

A natural steroid produced in the adrenal glands, used by the body to deal with stress.

Synthetic cortisol medications are often used to treat CAH. Since one of the primary goals of the adrenal glands is to produce cortisol, taking synthetic cortisol can help to regulate the adrenal glands so that other hormones aren't produced in excess! For more information on synthetic cortisol medications (corticosteroids), please check out our "Treatment" page under "Education!"
