The Key Hormones:

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)

SHBG is a protein that is produced in the liver. SHBG is used to bind testosterone, estrogen, and a hormone called dihydrotestosterone. Though, the primary purpose of SHBG is to control the amount of testosterone that is used by body tissue.

NOTE: If you are taking birth control, your Sex Hormone Binding Globulin levels may be flagged as "high." This is a very normal side effect of birth control is and most likely not something to be worried about, although it is still worth mentioning to your doctor!
